Week 8: Business Research

Businesses use Instagram to visually display their products/services and their personality. For this assignment, I researched four streamers that use Instagram for their business. Let's take a closer look at their Instagram accounts!

 Blinkytracer

Blinkytracer is a content creator that I met through Stream Coach Academy. She is an amazing person that focuses her content on the video game, Overwatch. She makes content that provides useful information on how to play as Tracer in Overwatch and also shares helpful tips for her viewers. She also posts about being a hearing impaired gamer.

She currently has 4,131 followers and posts daily. Her hashtags include: #girlgamer, #overwatch, #tracer, #overwatchmemes, #overwatchfunny, #videogames, #pc, #xbox, #ps4, and #disabledgamer. Her last post was made earlier today. Most of her content consists of pictures and videos related to Overwatch and content creation.

It appears that her content gets a lot of comments and likes from her community. The content that seemed to get the most responses was a post about her sharing common struggles of being a hearing impaired gamer. She has a TON of comments from her viewers supporting her. It's incredible to see the kind comments they send her! This post also has a lot of likes on it.

 Ashnichrist

Ashnichrist is my mentor from Stream Coach Academy. Her business's focus is to help Twitch streamers with the business aspect of their channels in the hopes of them earning Twitch Partner. Her Instagram has 14.1 thousand followers. She appears to post every two days. Her Instagram content is mostly text-based including useful information for her viewers. There are posts where she posts selfies and images of her products that she is advertising. Her most recent post was posted earlier today.

I found it to be interesting that she often does not include hashtags on her Instagram posts; however she does use some on certain posts. These hashtags include: #twitchstreamer, #twitchstreamers, #twitchcreators, #twitchcreator, #twitchgamer, #twitcheducation, #twitchstream, #businesscoach, #twitchcoach, #streamcoach, #streamcoaching, #streamercoach, and #streamcoachtv.

It appears that her content gets a handful of comments and a TON of likes from various streamers. The content that seemed to get the most responses was a post of her sharing her streaming journey. This is a text-based post that she created where she highlighted how long it took her to achieve "success". A lot of the comments are of streamers sharing their struggles with their journeys and thanking her for sharing hers.

 Friskk

Friskk is another mentor from Stream Coach Academy. Her content is more entertainment based, which is a great reason for me to study the way she uses social media. Her Instagram appears to be more about her personal life than her Twitch content. Here she posts pictures and videos from vacations, selfies, and occasional content of her dogs.

Her Instagram currently has 3,170 followers and she posts occasionally. Her last post was about a week ago. When she is talking about a product, her only hashtags will include the company's name and the product (ex: "#bluemicrophones" and "#bluemiccrew"). For her personal images, her hashtags include: #curlyhair, #curlyhairstyles, #curlyhairdontcare, #torrid, #torridfashion, #allnatural, #mixedgirl, #browneyes, #natural, #photography, #selfie, #happy, #live, #goodvibes, #goodmorning, #morning, #aerie, #curly, #curlygirl, #curlyhairdontcare, #curlynaturalhair, #curlybangs, #torridfitsme, #jeans, #torridjeans, #plussizefashion, #plussizebeauty, #swimsuit, #swimwear, and #torridswim. Just about all of her posts will include #curlyhair and other hashtags related to curly hair because she has very curly and beautiful hair.

It appears that her content gets a handful of comments but not many. The content that seemed to get the most responses was a post of her singing using a Blue Yeti microphone. It has plenty of comments and likes! I am unable to see a total number of likes on her posts.

Ninja

Ninja is a very popular Twitch streamer that is famous in the Esports realm of Twitch gaming. He currently has 14.5 million followers on his Instagram and posts about every 2-3 days. The content he posts on Instagram include images of him with his family, and footage from his streams. He does have some occasional videos here and there.

I also found it to be very interesting that most of his posts do not have hashtags in them; however, there are a few posts where he does use them.  These posts are advertisements for a new shoe line that he collaborated with Adidas on. In these posts he uses the hashtags: #createdwithadidas, and #adidasbyninja. When he is advertising his merchandise, he uses #TeamNinja (his community name) as a hashtag.

The content that seemed to get the most responses was a post advertising his shoe line with Adidas. There was tons of comments talking about the shoes. Because he has a ton of followers on Instagram, it appears that some of these comments are people who like to troll people. Some of the comments are negative and inappropriate which led me to believe that some of these users are trolls. Either way, his business is still getting attention one way or another.

For all accounts, I found it difficult to figure out the proportion of followers in relation to their number of likes. This is because Instagram has now made that private where only the user can see their insights on their content. When you look at a person's post you would see "*insert username here* and others" have liked this post. After clicking on "others" it does provide a list of people who liked it but does not provide an exact number.

The big thing I noticed with all of these accounts are the variety of content they choose to post. Some use all text for their posts. Others use pictures and videos. It's amazing to see how effective these methods are in catching someone's attention. Some hashtags that might work well with my business include: #womeningaming, #femalegamer, #Twitch, #twitchstreamer, #mentalhealth.
