Week 13 Post 1: Online Advertising Analysis

Advertising on social media is very common in today's technological world. With users signing up for social media platforms every day, businesses are making the move from traditional advertisements to advertising on these platforms. This week I analyzed the types of advertisements that are posted on Facebook and other forms of social media.

Businesses have gained an advantage of reaching more customers/clients online that they normally wouldn't if they used traditional advertising. Thanks to the social media algorithms, businesses have had an easier time to promote themselves on social media. Facebook makes advertising beneficial for both the user and the business. From the users' standpoint, users have the option of removing any advertisements that do not apply to them. This is excellent because it prevents users from getting annoyed with advertisements they don't want to see. From the businesses' standpoint, Facebook allows businesses to pay for ad space which would help them reach more users.

One of the big things I noticed is that most of the advertisements are geared towards my interests or Google searches. If this is the case, advertisements are shown on users' news feeds based off of the users' interests. Most of the advertisements also use video content. Video content really captures viewers' attention when they are scroll through their news feed. I tend to find myself stopping to observe what the video is trying to advertise. Another element that catches my attention is when the business uses an eye-catching image for their advertisement. The advertisements' calls to action are often to purchase their products or to learn a new skill through their program. All links go to the businesses' website. After clicking the link, users are directed to a webpage where they could sign up for the program that was advertised or browse through the businesses' online store.

Online advertising is bigger than ever in the world we live in today. Because social media is used very often, advertising on social media has become more effective than traditional advertising. By placing advertisements on social media platforms, businesses have been able to gain exposure from larger groups of people. As a result to this wonderful opportunity of exposure, advertisements will introduce users to their business website and hopefully attract new customers/clients.
