Week 4 Post 1: Differences in Target Market

This week, we are diving into target markets and determining how they are taken into consideration in business websites. The set I chose to analyze was Set Two: Subway and Hungry Bear. Let's take a look at their similarities and differences between these two businesses!

Subway

Subway is a nation-wide sandwich franchise. Subway appears to appeal to people who enjoy healthy foods at a low price. On their home page, they have a section about eating better. In the past former Subway sponsor, Jared, advertised Subway as a healthy option for customers to enjoy while losing weight eating it. The "Eat Better" page goes into deeper detail about the nutritional value of Subway foods, an allergen list, and displays where the food comes from.

One thing that caught my eye was that Subway is the official sandwich sponsor of the NFL. With this partnership, Subway's demographic could also consist of both football fans and players. When you click on the partnership information on the home page, it directs you to their Twitter page. The website includes their social media links towards the bottom the each webpage.

As I was looked at the images of the sub sandwiches, I could tell that they are falsely advertising the product. The images look very fake to make the sandwich look more inviting to eat. My Subway sandwiches never looked like the ones on their website!

Hungry Bear Deli

Hungry Bear Deli's demographic appears to be San Diego or Vista locals. Hungry Bear Deli appears to be marketing the high quality of their sandwiches. Their menu displays the prices and ingredients of their products, so they know exactly what they are paying for.

The website is very easy to read and navigate through. Each webpage is very straight forward with their information. To me, it seems like the website is still kind of new. I would have loved to learn more information about the business (how it was established, is it a family-owned business, etc). The images of their sandwiches look realistic and boy do they look delicious! I know for sure where I am going when I am hungry for a sub sandwich.

Hungry Bear Deli also appears to be advertising itself as the best sandwiches and subs in San Diego. I would have loved to see more accolades listed on their webpage or a link/video of them being featured on channel 10. They do have links to their Yelp and Google Review pages. Their social media profiles are consistently displayed at the lower left in the footer section of each webpage.

Crossovers Between the Two:

The main crossover is that they are both appealing to people who want a sandwich. While Subway is on the cheaper side with their $6 footlongs (previously advertised as $5), Hungry Bear is focused on the quality of their sandwiches. Both websites appeal to corporate events or large parties, as they offer catering services. Lastly, both pages were also easy to read and navigate through.
