Week 1: Why I chose my theme

I chose my theme because I really enjoy the color scheme of blues and purples. I figured this would work best because this is the color scheme that I use on my Twitch channel. I really liked how simple the layout looked! I also found a space image in the settings section that also drew me in. Space has always been an interest of mine but I find myself appreciating the aesthetic of images like this (my mouse pad has a very similar image as this one). I feel as though I will end up changing my theme throughout the course once I get a full understanding of how I want to market myself to people.

The first social media platform that I signed up for was Friendster.com. I was never active on that site because I had no clue how to navigate through it. It wasn't until my middle school years when my cousin signed me up for Myspace.com. Myspace made it very easy to navigate through. The one thing I did not like about it was the use of a bulletin board. Although this could have been useful, people often abused it for to post silly things. After a few years of Myspace, I transitioned over to Facebook and have been a user on that ever since.

I believe the social media that works best for personal use would be Facebook, Instagram, Myspace and Tumblr. From looking at posts on all these platforms, I have noticed how vocal people are about their personal beliefs and how willing they are to shoot people who have opposing views down. While this platform could be excellent for creating discussions, I have seen many disputes and negativity on these said platforms. Tearing people down online is never a great experience and it has caused me to observe online than be an active user. What is great with Instagram is that it is primarily a visual platform (allowing users to only post pictures and videos). Tumblr is a blog based website where the user could post pretty much anything. I used to be very active on this site but slowly stopped losing interest when others' posts became too much for me to enjoy the platform.

The social media that works best for business use is Twitter, Instagram, and Youtube. Twitter is an excellent platform that I am still learning. I love how it displays what people have liked, in the attempt to gain more followers through connections. It seems to me that Twitter is all about gaining connections with others and more exposure. Instagram is wonderful because it is very easy to navigate and the content options are endless! Lastly, I believe Youtube is great because if done correctly, your content can reach SEO (Search Engine Optimization), meaning your content would grow in website traffic that could lead to more people going to your business's website. When someone looks up something on Google, your video could be one of the first options to come up. How cool is that?!

  2. That's great that you have tied your Twitch channel and your blog together visually. Building your brand consistently can be difficult to do. I love your blog!

  3. Great theme choice and layout! The space aesthetic is nice and easy on the eyes with the dark colors. I also agree that some social media platforms are more for social rather than business as a mix of the two can become uneasy.

  4. This reminds me of Star Wars and I love Star Wars.

I used to really enjoy Tumblr, then it became unpopular all of a sudden.
    What a bummer.
